A sequential approach for a multi-commodity two-echelon distribution problem

We address a Multi-Commodity two-echelon Distribution Problem (MC2DP) where three sets of stakeholders are involved: suppliers, distribution centers, and customers. Multiple commodities have to be sent from suppliers customers, using multiple centers for consolidation purposes. Commodities collected the delivered with direct trips, while fleet homogeneous vehicles distributes compatible, that is any vehicle can transport set as long its capacity not exceeded. The goal minimize total transportation cost present two sequential schemes based on solution, in different order, collection delivery subproblem. In both cases, solution first subproblem determines quantity each commodity at center. second takes this information input. also propose strategies guide order take into account impact proposed heuristics evaluated compared randomly generated instances case study related short local fresh food supply chain. results show problem characteristics strategies.
